I wondered the same thing. But if the air pressure is regulated down a bit, I think it will work fine for shifting. I often have to keep pressure on the lever when shifting out of 4WD, and the air cylinder will do the same. Shifting in HI/LO may require a flow controller to shift the rail more slowly. But again I think it will work well.
