The tach was given to me by a friend who has been dismantling and rebuilding old Ford trucks for 30 years. Chances are the tach is off a '60s Ford, and 12 volt. It is definitely not mechanical.
When I have time I will see if there is any indication of the voltage. I guess there are no tests to prove, and I wouldn't have the instruments, even if there were.
