My opinion is that fewer people really want a fire engine. So there less demand in a market of fewer available trucks.

However, many of the fire trucks are in much better shape than pickup trucks of the same year. Fire trucks in general have much lower milage, less abused, and usually maintained quite well and have been inside most of their lives. The main drawback is that fire tucks/bush trucks often have a lot of holes drilled in them to mount equipment. My PW is a fire/brush truck out of the Billings MT area (I bought it in Anchorage AK). It is in good shape because of that. The bed and roof have some holes where equipment was mounted. Dash is not altered much at all. It appears to have been on it's roof at one time as it has body hammer marks on the inside of the roof above the doors. Very minor damage.
