I think it will be tough to do without the
Proper tooling.
Original tool was mounted in a vice with a arm that extended into the piston from the
Bottom like the rod would do.
Then the knurling head, would rotate around the skirt.

Personally I thought you were working on your pony motor and I wouldn't even worry about it.
Like you said how often will it run and who cares if it smokes as long as it runs.
Just rebuild the best you can and call it good.
Oh and smear some "Cat" yellow on it when Done for the Oficial rebuild look! :-)
