You would go down to the DRMO at Ft Lewis and pick through the used tire pile. Any tire was $5, and you could usually find some decent ones. But those days are long gone. Every tire shop can order them for a high price, and there are all the on-line dealers, also expensive when you include shipping. I got some never-used 9.00-20 retreads from a neighbor of mine but when I aired them up the casings were so weather-checked I couldn't even use them. I'm afraid we're pretty much stuck with buying new rubber. A lot of guys go with modern "mudder" tires on M37s, but if you do that, bear in mind that steering will be a lot harder on bare pavement. Part of the reason for the center rib on the NDTs is to make them easier to turn.
