Heading down 195 yesterday from Spokane to Moscow (2-lane 60 mph highway) I suddenly see a trailer in my lane heading towards me, smoke coming off the tires. I dive for the shoulder, which is fortunately wide, and the trailer swerves back away from me. It's a fair-sized utility trailer loaded with random stuff, being pulled by a newer pickup. As I watch in the rear-view mirror the guy continues northbound at full speed with the trailer jerking back and forth so violently the smoke is coming off the skidding tires. I watch till he's out of sight. Everyone seems to have managed to avoid him. How can anyone not notice their trailer jerking around like that? I've seen a lot of trailers swaying, but not swinging back and forth 20 feet or so with smoke coming from the tires, and never with the driver continuing on like everything is fine. I can only hope he got where he was going without killing anybody.
