It's possible. I'm deciding how much I'm actually going to use the winch. For occasional use I think the stock setup seems ok. I have a spare alternator that I could throw in the the truck box I guess. Theoretically if the computer is protecting the alt it should last a long time I would think. Dunno. So far my 48' is my main work/wheeler machine. I can't imagine using the winch on my other truck except for occasional minor stucks, on hunting related activities. It could be called upon to rescue the truck and camp trailer like I did a couple of weeks ago. In which case theoretically pulling a load that large if one used a snatch block, it would be a lot easier on the electrical system and winch.
