A trick I discovered by accident with a front wheel drive car is, if you get stuck going uphill on a narrow slippery road is to back down into the cut bank and then let the front tires spin, with the rear end pushing against the bank. If the road is steep enough, the front end will swing around and off you go. If it's not, you can leave it in reverse and get out and push to help it along. It's not going to go anywhere even if it suddenly gets some traction. Then when you have it pointed somewhat downhill, get in and drive away. Won't work on rear wheel drive because if you put the nose into the bank, the rear isn't going to slide itself UP the hill.
