Use "sensor safe" automotive silicone if you go that route. The ordinary bathtub caulk that smells of vinegar exudes corrosive fumes that are murder on electrical connections, especially in a confined space. There is also "low-adhesion" silicone for gasket applications so you can get the parts apart.
