The only difference between the front and rear shocks, that I know of, is that the rear shocks had stone guards spotwelded on the front sides to protect the lower shock bodies. The fronts did not. I see that VPW still lists different part numbers for front verses rear.

Maybe the rears are a little longer? Cannot verify. When I installed rear shock brackets on my WDX, I moved the old front shocks to the back and put new ones on the front. They fit well by doing this. If the originals were different lengths from front to back, it could not have been by very much.
