I have a bunch of nickelled antique stove parts to clean up, and would like to find an easier way to clean them.
A lot of times, most of the nickel is still there, but because it is porous, the rust grows through it.
Cleaning by hand with Gibbs Oil and steel wool leaves the best surface but is really slow.
Glass bead blasting sort of works, but tends to lift the edges of the Nickel in the rusty spots.

I am going to build a de-rusting tank from an old 1000litre (200gal) plastic tote, but have a couple of questions first:

Has anybody tried this method to remove rust from old Nickel plated parts?

Have any of you tried a Nonferrous sacrificial electrode such as carbon sticks, titanium sheets, etc. so that they would not need to be replaced??
If yes, how did it work out?

Thanks
