The npt fitting leaking on the front of the master cylinder is steel, and being a brake system I went with no tape or sealant. The drain plug at the bottom of the master cylinder is also steel, npt fitting. Seems they are going to need some type of sealant just as most all npt connections do. Went to Permatex and their small tube of high temp sealant does include brake systems as one of the recommended applications. Again, I am talking obout npt fittings on the master cylinder NOT flared fittings (which should never have sealant applied).
