My 51 PW has a small exhaust leak that I saw a couple of months ago. So the other day I took it off. What a pain when several studs came out of the block because then I had to drain the block. Mainly it was the 4 outer studs and 2 inner studs in the exhaust manifold that came out of the block. Once the studs were out,I had to heat the nuts to dull red to break them loose from those studs. So I spent Saturday going to 5 places to find some new studs. The best supplies were at my 2 local hardware stores. One auto parts store had a decent supply but not the long ones that go through the center of the exhaust manifold. The other two auto parts stores were worthless as were the clowns in them who were clueless. So I get to go to Tacoma Screw which will have the one size I could not find. I am hoping they might have the special nut that is used on the outer exhaust manifold studs. I have 3 good ones and the last one has been missing since I got the truck.

Both the intake and exhaust manifolds are about shot. The exhaust manifold has a small crack by the heat riser which I can live with. However, it's two center port mounting faces are badly channeled out and rusted and will be difficult to seal. I need to find a good replacement for it. The intake manifold is cracked right at one of the bolt holes where the exhaust manifold is connected. Apparently someone broke a bolt and did not get it drilled out incorrectly so the bolt hole is too close to the outer manifold surface so it split.

I could have a shop plane and weld the manifolds but that would cost more than finding a decent manifold set. So I am mounting my current ones until I can find better.
