All I can envision is that it's sort of like sprinkling something granular on a drum head and then setting it to vibrating. The parts of the tire that move in and out a lot relative to the axle will shake the beads off, whereas the parts that stay steady will hold them. How that makes the tire run smoother is still beyond me, though. I think the key would be to make a sort of clear tire with definite imbalance and then spin it up slowly and watch what happens.
