One was made in the 05th week of year 8 (98, 88 or 78)
The other was made in the 34th week of year 7 (97, 87 or 77). Tires before 2000 had a 3 digit date code. The Date code is wwy (w = week, y = year).
You can't tell the exact year a tire was made until after 2000 when they went to a 4 digit date code which has the format wwyy.
