Good try but no prize. In the tech specs section under interior dimentions you will find the WM300 bed is only 54" ID wide not 54-1/2". The 6-1/2' bed should be the same. With one having been pushed in and the other out along with assembly variations you have your 1/2 -1" difference in bed with. The tailgates are most likely within a 1/4" of each other.
If you measured and found the beds wouldn't work trying to make a 8' bed that understandable but really, who would give up because the bed width is different by 1" or less being the tailgates are the same width?
