Ex post facto does not cover civil cases, only criminal ones. Case law has summed it up over the years. Thats why when you allow the so called "good guys" to break or overstep the law or constitution because "this guys so bad that we all can surely look the other way when violating the constitutional rights of the "bad" guys ,to convict him , it is most assuredly used against everyone else latter on and upheld as case law by us letting it pass under the table un-challenged. WE have let them set a presidence for other simular actions in the future.
The same thing is happening now. All over the internet they ask "what rights would you be willing to give up to catch a terrorist"?
Thing is, there is not a single place listed to say, NONE OF THE ABOVE!
We the people, have been paying the military billions of dollars to protect the US citizens from harm. How could they spend all this money and "not know" this was going to happen? Then afterwards in only 2weeks, they suddenly have all this info. Now they tell us it will cost more than the billions we've been giving them to protect us. Now, they want us to give up some freedoms and rights that were paid for, with blood, already.
WEll I say, HELL NO! Military do your job and protect us as you swore to do and were given billions to do. Should we the people give up our rights and freedoms because you failed to do your job? HELL NO!
When polled, well over 50% of Alabamians said they would not be willing to freely give up their freedoms and rights to catch the terrorist but felt it was the responsibility of the government and military to protect its citizens from harm in situations like this.
Rest assured, history screams, "if you give up your rights freely, you will never regain them freely" and to qoute Ben Franklin "those that would give up rights and freedoms for temporary security, deserve neither" Funny how a few sips of cheap wine loosens the tongue and typing finger!
