On My 1970 WM-300 FlatFender, the roof seam is part of the folded steel. The steel roof is bent below, comes up at a angle. The result is about .500" of material left. On the loose end, they bent it back onto its self, about .125", then bent the remaining .375" down co cover the top of the seam. Glad to hear that earlier PW's come apart with just cutting the end welds.
