Starting in 'P' or 'N' w/AT ???

I'm new to the board, so go easy.

I have a question related to a 1979 1/2 ton PW.
318 w/automatic trans. I periodically have starting problems
when the steering colume indicator is in the 'P' or Park position.
Sometimes its starts and someitmes it doesn't. When it doesn't start,
I turn the ignition key 1/2 way, then move to 'N' or neutral and it starts.

Anyone have any ideas or tips where to start looking ?
