So I'm closing in on a 58 W300M that's been
sitting for about ten years. The engine is
not frozen, but I'm a little concerned about
the transmission.
Without the engine running, I tried to shift
the transmission and see if I could hit all
of the gears. I could only get into the gear
that's left-and-up. I'm assuming that's first.
I'm a real rookie at unsynchro'd transmissions.
Since I can get the stick out of that gear and
at least move it side to side, I'm thinking that
it's because it's not a synchro gear may have
something to do with it.
Also, The PTO was difficult to move to the rear
position,and impossible to move to the front
position. Could this be at all related?
It's settled a bit in the mud and I would have
liked to try rolling it a bit, then trying to
shift again but that would have been impossible
to do without making it obvious that I was scoping
out the rig.
