Sounds like you've found a modified Power Wagon of some sort. The windshield regulator and offset diff sound like PW, as does the 1.96:1 transfer case. The wheel base could have been shortened, or PW parts could have been dropped onto a WWII 3/4 ton weapons carrier or command car frame which had 98" wheel bases. That might explain the combat rims. A surefire way to get more input from this forum would be to post a picture. Good luck!
