Joe,
I believe that web exposure here on your site and the other dodge-centered pages has already had a significant effect on truck prices. You cannot change the fact that millions of people see the web who wouldn't ever know about power wagons otherwise. I think you can work around that by insisting, as Gil so aptly stated, that power wagons should be within reach of as many folks as possible. This will insure both a future for the trucks themselves, as well as a fair chance for folks who haven't yet found their power wagon behind a barn somewhere. I fear that a public auction would encourage wholesale mopping up of an already dwindling supply of fixable trucks.(sorta like the big silver selling panic of years ago, when folks were even cashing in family heirlooms) If that happened, there would be no more Sunday "Power Wagon Hunting" trips for anyone. Power wagons were meant for work, so let's do our part to keep them in the domain of the working people, and out of the hands of the "wine & cheese" set. That said,
Muffy, would you pass me that WDX finny pin, or we'll be late for the poodle's therapy session.
I'm sure some people here remember years ago when the owner of Dixie Gun Works in Tennessee embarked on what he termed an "experiment" to see what a Springfield 1873 rifle was worth. The government had sold thousands of them to citizens for a few bucks each. I believe the good gentleman who made this offer sawthem as an undervalued resource to be taken advantage of. So, he tendered a public offer to buy up as many as he could, for very low prices of course. These fine rifles went from a "behind every door" status to a highly sought after collector gun in less than a year. Today it's rare to even find one for sale. Anyone who has recently been searching for power wagons can vouch that many owners "just say no" when askedto sella truck that's just growing weeds. You have to wonder why!
Joe,this is a neat site for truck owners and lovers alike. Nothing I've said should be taken as criticism of any sort. This site could be made into a super duper information resource with no rivals, if we all keep Gil's statement in mind in mind....lets do what we all can to keep power wagons in as many hands as possible!
Regards,
Jack
