I am running a '94 Dodge 6bt piston pump on my 4bt. People say that the 25 psi pump will blow out the seal in the VE injection pump. I bought one of the expensive 15 psi versions from Cummins for the Ramcharger. But I went cheap on the 4bt and my crew cab. Both of them are running the 25 psi pump. The guy who built my 6bt injection pump said it would be fine. I've experienced no problem, but you'll find people on the internet who have.

Here is the spacer and gaskets you need for the piston pump: The OEM gaskets are great. They don’t need sealer and they stay on the bolts nice.

Here is a cheap Chinese pump that will outlast every diaphragm pump you put on. http://www.ebay.com/itm/181169317883?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I bought a Cummins/Carter one off ebay for somewhere between $50 and $100.

You also need a different fuel tube from the pump to the filter head. I'll see if I can find that number.

When my diaphragm pumps went bad, they were usually hard to start, but ran OK until a heavy load.

Changing the filter would be good.

You might also keep an eye out for soft rubber hoses that could suck themselves shut. Ask for Gates Barricade fuel hose. it will stand up to modern fuel better. And you can use fuel injection hose if you want a little extra rigidity.
