Thanks Jess! Yep, I wanted enough of an apron to be able to work outside if the need arises.

The concrete is sealed with two products. I found out what Costco and Home Depot use on their new builds.

The first is Pentra-Sil (NL) from Convergent Technologies. It is a densifier, meaning that it makes the concrete harder. It soaks into the concrete and chemically reacts with the calcium. It also provides some sealing. This product can be applied at anytime after they finish troweling the concrete out to fully cured. It is water based.

The second product is Pentra-Finish (HG) also from Convergent Technologies. It is a water based sealer and is meant to be a top coat to the Pentra-Sil (NL). Again, it can be applied at anytime after the Pentra-Sil (NL) is dry.

Both products are very easy to apply. I used a garden sprayer and a swiffer pad to apply it. They both dry in less than an hour. Then I used a floor burnishing machine (buffer) between coats. I ended up putting three coats of the Pentra-Sil (NL) and four coats of the Pentra-Finish (HG).

The rougher the concrete the more product you will use. My concrete guys were really good and left me with a pretty smooth surface. Had I to do it over, I would have polished the concrete even smoother first, before applying anything.

These products are not cheap. I've got about $1000 in them. I purchased five gals of each and don't have any left. As you apply it, each coat goes farther as it seals up. Another note of caution, they recommend very thin coats, so don't let it pool or be thick in any areas. It will look better with thin coats.

Here is a photo of the pad when I finished, before the steel went up. What was nice is that I was able to seal the entire pad including the sides.

This is probably more than you wanted to know but if you have any questions, let me know.

Clark
