are required because the driveshaft rotates at "half speed" when the opposite tire remains on the ground due to the pinon gears. On your 6x6, you may have to raise both rear wheels on the same side of the truck off the ground because both rear axles are interconnected through the transfer case.

Reading the axle ratio stamped into the bottom of the third member housing only tells you what the original gear ratio was in that housing when the truck left the factory. You want to know what gear ratio is in there today, not 70 years ago. So jack up and spin your wheels for the real answer.
