The "Rube Goldberg" parking brake looks like the Power Giant, TW adjustable parking brake lever, used for a long time, and elsewhere. My 57 NP-540 has a PTO on the right, so the shift was on the floor, right side. The suspect words you used where "newer type PTO", but who knows? I don't see any way to actuate a 2 speed rear. Usually a push pull on the shifter. There is a 47ish 1.5 ton Dodge just down the road that has a 2 speed rear. No speed shifting!!!
