After learning that my 318 motor was trashed, I bought and rebuilt a 360 and am in the process of putting it back in my WDX. I have Ray Suiters's conversion kit (using a hydraulic clutch), an NP 435 transmission together with a bell housing from the old 318. I knew the flywheel was somewhat different (one is internally balanced and the other externally)but it is the same diameter as the 318's. Alas, it's thicker and strikes the front of the bell housing. The ring gear is different as well but I plan on swapping it out with the 318's which is in good shape. The last step is to have a machine shop make a shim to move the flywheel back from the front of the bell housing and use longer bolts when I put it back on the block. Will this work? Or does somebody have a better solution?
