Hi Galen,
Once the 2 exterior screws are out, it "should" pull straight out. They do get rusted into the latch and can be a real bear to remove. If I remember right, I THINK you can get to the end of the square shaft with the inner panel off and can tap on it with a drift.
And yes, the steering wheel puller arrived home safe and sound!
