In all actuality, it's one of the biggest discoveries in history. Because we know so little in the grand scheme of things about nearly everything in existence, the vindication of Einstein's theory (once again) shows that we are at least travelling on the right track to discovering more about the fundamental laws that govern everything in the universe. It will have HUGE implications in quantum technologies that will eventually power everything on earth (granted, if we don't kill ourselves off first). It will throw many theories into the trash bin, create new ones that are ever more accurate models of what we observe in experiments, and increase our knowledge of the heavens when we look back in time. I know 99% of the population either don't understand the physics, the importance... or don't give a rat's patootie, but this is big, big, BIG news. I'm ecstatic, myself!
