Have you removed that blue strap? It may be keeping things in a bind. With it on there you wouldn't be able to get any movement. While pushing it in move the rear of it up and down and side to side. That shaft needs to find the hole.
I'm resisting the urge to offer the classic rude advice I always heard when I couldn't get something started in a hole. Jim
