It works. I tested it on my '84 crew cab.

I got a roll of flexible, magnetic vinyl from a company that makes signs. I cut pieces to fit the steel roof inside my 84. It works. It has stayed up there for a year. It makes its a bit quieter. My plan, now that I know it sticks is to cover the magnetic material with fabric to soak up additional noise. Anytime I want to go back to the original look, I just peel it loose. Presumably, you could use this anywhere you wanted your truck to feel a little less like a tin can, but don't want to put something on permanently that doesn't belong.
