Of course they do, silly question. Based on a couple of searches it looks like nickle-bronze is a common for this type of thing.
I think I like this idea a lot, esp. since the holes are typically only really damaged on the ends and top/bottom. It shouldn't be hard to touch up one end then drill using other side of the hole as a drill guide then reverse.
