So, remember I posted back in October that I had found that I had a blown head gasket in my M37 "Blueberry" I fixed that, but then it would not start which was traced to no spark. No idea why, as I had not disturbed the distributor. Finally after replacing all of the tune up parts and the coil, I found that cleaning the breaker plate and the little turnbuttons that hold it into the dist. that I had good spark. Great, but still no start. Wouldnt even try. Did another compression test, and had really low compression all avross the board. Figured with all the cranking I had washed the cylinders down. Squirted oil down the plug holes and still no go. Tried pull starting it and it took right off, but ran really crappy and really rich. Brought it back into the shop and decided at that point to check the oil. The level was WAAY high. I got underneath it with my oil drain pan and pulled the plug. No exageration about 3 gallons of gasoline poured out. Changed the oil and filter and decided it was way too much to be from simply cranking a non starting engine. I had gotten a fuel pump rebuilt with the modern rubbers but hadnt installed it. I decided at that point to install the new pump and to send a carb to Dimetrios at Pascoreef Micro Restorations, as reccomended by Dave Horvath and Joel Folman, both of whom speak very highly of.
So today, I got off early and went ahead and installed the fuel pump and the rebuilt carb and low and behold she started right up and ran quite nicely. Man what a feeling of relief!
It was snowing and the roads were pretty slushy so I didnt do a test drive but will soon.
Add me to the fan club of Pascoreef Micro Restorations, the carb came back to me loookin more like a piece of art than something to bolt on a vehicle!
