Bruce;

I wanted to add this to my post.

As aforementioned, I dont see your present problem related to the KSB. However, the KSB MUST be checked. Since your not sure if you have a wax motor or solenoid type, nor how its hooked, you could end up doing damage. The wax motor and solenoid KSB's, thought the end result is the same, in reality operate 180 degrees from each other to achieve the outcome. The wax motor uses a temp sensor in the water jacket below the intake manifold. The solenoid ksb uses a sensor in the
air flow in the intake manifold.

Look in your Cummins B3.9/B5.9 shop manual under fuel systems for a detailed discussion on both types and hook up of the KSB's. If you have access to the book
"Diesel Distributor Fuel-Injection Pumps VE series" by Robert Bosch GMBH who makes the VE pump you will find that the KSB could also be ordered to operate by operator control by pulling a "Bowden" wire cable. I elected all my trucks to be operator control. I accomplish that by using a electrical switch, with a dash pilot light to either apply power or remove power (depending on the type of KSB), thus I am in control and for how long the KSB operates.

You will find in the front of the Cummins B3.9/B5.9 Shop Manual a very extensive list of trouble shooting trees. Look up your problem in the index, then follow in detail the trouble shooting tree, and you will find the problem.

I trust you do have the Cummins shop manual. Our experience with Mopar, SBC, etc, gas engines does not apply. The Cummins is a entirely different beast. Once in a while you can find shop manuals on ebay. If you go to the Chrome C to buy one, expect them to lighten your wallet by roughly $125.....my do they love their manuals.

Paul
