Ethanol is colorless

Ethanol is completely colorless until they denature it with gasoline. Think Everclear, not Bourbon.

Legal limits for moisture in diesel fuel are measured in parts per million, not percent. I couldn't tell you exactly what they are for gasoline blends, but you are right that lots of moisture can come into storage tanks-especially in a vehicle that sits for a long time. It's worse if it sites where there are dramatic changes in temperature. If it heats up during the day and cools down at night, the tank exchanges air and brings in moisture and condensation. Keeping a full tank reduces the head space and the air exchange, but if you don't drive it, then you end up with a full tank of old, stale gasoline.

My Model A runs great on ethanol, but I know that's not what you meant. I ran my '63 Mercury for 15 years and 60,000 miles on E10. I never had a problem until I stopped driving it regularly. If I let it sit, I had to replace the power valve in the carburetor every time. These are among the many reasons, I have come to appreciate diesels-even though I love a lot of old cars with gas engines.

Ask for Gates Barricade fuel line whenever you replace a rubber hose. It has a liner to stand up to ethanol. You likely get cheap crap hose If you don't ask specifically for quality.

Stale gas and old cars don't mix. It is a problem if you have cars that sit around and don't get driven. Still, I'd rather deal with these fixable problems than all the problems associated with sole dependence on imported petroleum. If you can get ethanol-free gas for your old barn ornament, that's probably what you should use. In your daily driver, I'd burn as much as the American-made stuff as you can.
