This is how I'd approach it. So we have a nuclear apocalypse. And you survive. You are 70-75 years old. You are an asset to your community. Bottom line question is- can you take the sissified truck, teach others how to maintain it, and make it run without the plastic and technology (if it actually survived the EMP from the nuclear apocalypse)? In this case, I'd be looking for a low-mileage, good condition 1960's truck with a pile of consumable spares (brakes, coils, ignition pieces, overhaul kits).

Conversely, if we don't have a nuclear apocalypse, can you get around efficiently and safely with the sissified truck, or would one a one a few years older with low mileage do just as well? In this case, I'd be looking for the most modern, cheapest, best value I could find in good condition.

As for comfort on the old bones, use an extra cushion and take the coon dog with you- he'll curl up with you and keep you and the missus warm in the cab.

I did rent a 2015 Suburban and Dodge Ram 2500 last year for a week apiece. All I can say is, the space program finally paid off and made its way to GMC and Chrysler. What a pair of rockets and tech pigs. And very comfortable if you don't have a good coon dog....
