It's a tough reality, Gil. One that I have had my share of difficulties with. Health issues come up that you never imagined. I had 3 major surgeries in 6 months in 2013. Before that I never went to a hospital except to visit someone. I am now 73 and doing much better than before.
Now my '06 Dodge 2500 CTD (bought new, cash) has almost 140k on it. I am hoping it will double the miles for me. I am NOT going to be buying another new truck. Simply could not afford one.
I need a 4x4, but if I didn't, and I needed another truck, I would look for an early to mid-90s 12 valve, like Bill suggested. They are out there. If you don't need 4 wheel drive, they are even more plentiful. They are bulletproof and will probably hold there value long after the junk they are selling now is recycled into beer cans.
