Front wheel bearings in gear oil OT

Today my son was doing brake work on a 97 Chevy C60 dump truck. Pulled the front hubs and the wheel bearings had gear oil in the hubs, No wheel bearing grease. The inner grease seal was a 2 piece design a seal inside a seal. The inner seal spins with the hub. The front bearing cap had a clear plastic center. after we cleaned it up you could see it. So after a phone call I found out that it hold 85-140 gear oil and to fill it almost half way on the sight glass. No bearing grease at all.Learn something new every day. Bill.
