I think it totally depends on the exact box model.

I had a Saginaw PS box rebuilt by AGR Power Steering, cost some good money for the rebuild. When I installed it, I decided it woudl be a good idea to drill a hole thru the output shaft to use a grade 8, .250" bolt thru the universal and shaft to lock it up for safety.

Got out my handy drill and drilled the hole, ALL WAS WELL. I installed the box and keep building. I finally got to the point where I coudl light up the B3.9. I has PS oil flying everywhere !!! And it was coming out of the hole/bolt that I drilled.

I called AGR and was told some saginaw boxes have a hollow shaft and that little tit on the end is where the torsion valve spring is attached. They told me the only way to fix is to return it and have a new shaft installed. More big money with the repair and shipping both ways.

Anymore, not knowing exactly what saginaw boxes have hollow shafts, I dont drill them.

If you cut the tit off, you may or may not find a hollow shaft.....good luck

Paul
