Saginaw power steering

Getting ready to install the steering column in the WC. There is a stem which sticks out of the input past the splines on the 70's reverse rotation box which is interfering with the steering u joint on the column. I think I read it's OK to cut this off for clearance, can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance, Mike.
