We've had several smaller fires as close as 200 metres, but no damage to our place. The wildfires causing all the damage are about 30 miles from us in the Otway Ranges - a lot of it very hard to access due to steep terrain. There are fire trails in there, but only along the top of some ridges as the valleys are too steep. I'm hoping the Antarctic beech trees growing in there don't get damaged, some over 1000 years old and 200 to 250 feet tall. Also a lot of sub-tropical rain forest in there.
