Admittedly ignorant question. Lifting a D3500

My apologies. This is wort of a Mopar question, and sort of not, and not really a Power Wagon question, even though I do own a 62 W300.

I also own a 2007 D3500 4x4 diesel. I've had it since it was new, and it's been a really good truck. It's a long bed crew cab truck, and still stock as I'm basically too cheap to modify a truck when its new, although it has the obligatory really stout bumper that I always put on.

Anyhow, even though I like this truck a lot, due to its length I've always had a problem with contacting rocks in the backcountry with the differentials and underside of the truck (fortunately it did come stock with skid plates).

I've never entertained the idea of lifting anything I own, and never seen a point to that, but about a year ago I came into a 97 Jeep TJ which a prior owner had slightly lifted and then put on taller tires. It doesn't look airborne but it does have great clearance.

Now I'm tempted to maybe lift the D3500 2" on the thought that taller tires might be a good idea. This truck always wears all terrain Goodyear tires and I don't want balloon tires, just maybe tires with a higher sidewall.

If I did that would I need new wheels too?

What all does this entail, and would this idea work for this truck?

Thoughts, opinions?
