I understand about the expansion/contraction suckage. That plus condensation means it will always be wet inside. If I really wanted it to last, I would get an LED bulb, disassemble it, spray the electronics with silicone conformal coating, and then pot the whole shebang in electronic grade RTV like they do on missile avionics to make them pass shock-and-vibe. I might hope that an LED bulb, producing much less heat, would reduce the thermal cycling suckage somewhat. But at this point, I'm not going to get too elaborate with redesigns. I'll probably just keep looking at the Amazon reviews for regular outdoor bulbs and roll the dice on one of them. I really can't see any advantage to going low-voltage. Besides 120 IS low voltage in a mine.
