When I was barely big enough to reach up over the top of my dad's table saw I grabbed for a little triangle of wood as soon as he'd turned the motor off. The blade took a pretty good bite out of my finger and my dad was really in the doghouse with my mom for it. I don't know if it scared me sufficiently or I've just been lucky, but I've never cut myself with a saw since then. One toe smashed with a double-jack and I learned not to prop the block of wood up with my foot. One spoonful of molten lead poured on my hand and I wear welding gloves now. Aside from drilling into a loaded hole, I think I got all my power tool accidents out of the way as a teenager. Still haven't rolled the cat or gotten body parts in the way of the chain saw, and hope I never do. But it's definitely true that good judgment comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgment.
