It is not true with posi traction, but is true with an open differential. With only one tire off the ground you are spinning the spider gears. The spider gears have half the number of teeth as the side gears, so you lose the 1:1 effect of spinning both side gears without the spiders. Spiders allow you to go around corners without tire chirping, unlike a lincoln locker which eliminates the spider effect.
