I have two generators under the hood running off a 318 poly. One does the normal thing and the other sends power to an invertor in the passenger compartment. I can plug 115 AC into this box or to the remote plug on the rear fender. It also has a voltage guage on the invertor itself. At idle, it is producing about 70 VAC and at the shifting point rpms it is producing about 150 VAC. Its ok for the Christmas lights I run in the truck, but I wouldn't reccomend running anything else off it. The Christmas lights are barely glowing at a stop sign and at the shifting point, they look like they are going to explode. Even if I ran the engine at just the rpms to make 115 VAC, I dont think the signal would be especially clean and I would be wasting a lot of gas amd making a lot of heat.

The Honda, on the other hand, produces power clean enough to run computers. It has an energy saving low rpm setting and will ajust it's speed to compensate for load. The noise reduction alone is worth the extra price. I use mine a LOT and have never had a problem. It also will shut down when overloaded, or low on oil. Will your invertor do that? OR will it just melt some wires and cause a little campfire under the hood while you are away in the house tracing a short? The Honda will cost about 2k but is worth every cent. I can send pictures if you need them of my current invertor and the Honda Generator.
Best wishes
Lonnie
