I forgot to mention though, that I believe all this is trumped by the site's settings if so implemented, which appears to be the case.
Also, if you just came back to the site and they are all blue, but after going to a message and then back it's back to the red like you expected, your kiddo most likely had erased the temporary internet files and the history(also shown on the general tab of the interent options). Without the history, your browser/the site can't determine what you've read or not, thus they all show up as blue links, even the ones you read yesterday. Now, for the funny part, if the history and/or the temporary internet files have been erased by your son, it almost certainly points to his having visited sites he doesn't want you to know he was visiting(PORN) and didn't want you being able to track this down through the history/temp files, thus he erased them. So, if you find your history and/or temporary internet files have been erased, call him up and give a him a goodhearted 'jabbing'.
Depending on your system you can also find ouy where he went regardless of the deletion of the history and temp files. Cookies, they are a temporary internet file but do not get erased by the above mentioned actions. They leave a nice little trail of just about everywhere you've gone, unless of course you have cookies disabled.
