Lower hose should have a "coil spring" inside to prevent collapse.
To check for nesseccity for rodding, drain system, hold hand over lower hose fitting while filling w/ garden hose. Listen in cap seat when you let your hand off of lower fitting. A clean radfiator just gurgles as the water runs out, a dirty one whistles as air is drawn in through the mineralised tubes.
Note: the mineralization is "lead bloom", lead oxide building up on the solder joint. Distilled water probably prevents this and is more inportant in the radiator than in the battery.
Also note: they don't 'rod' radiators anymore, they just acid bath them, fairly weakly, Then they brush a stronger acid in through the cap so it looks nice and shiny.You can probably do a better job at home with pool acid.
