Paint job

Hi all,
I am hoping to get my 47 Dodge 1-ton truck (civillian, sorry) painted soon before winter. I am afraid of it rusting away and although I would love a first class paint job, I need to get something at least decent on it. What should I expect to pay? A local shop told me $2500 for a 'basic' paint job if I removed the trim and etc. I only want the outside painted, and there's just a few tiny dings to smooth out, and zero rust except surface. Any input would be great. Thanks,
