I remember years ago seeing an after market power steering unit that was made to be installed right in the steering shaft. The guy who had it wouldn't part with it. He told me they were made for a short time but the guy who made them stopped because of legal issues and the costs involved with having them tested to verify safety concerns. Mopar Norm was also familiar with them, and agreed with my understanding on why they didn't continue in production.
At any rate, I got to searching on shaft mounted power steering and came up with this. Allis Chalmers tractors had such a device. The link shows lots of images.
I wanted to see comments on the feasibility of using something like this in the PW.
